Professional development

Mannering Park values on-going professional development as it allows teachers to deliver high quality teaching that is based on current research and data. Professional development also allows teachers to collaborate and share ideas further improving student learning and achievement. Teachers at Mannering Park are currently completing and maintaining their professional development in numerous areas, as well as actively implementing the following programs within targeted classrooms:

Language, learning and literacy (L3)

L3 is a research-based, Kindergarten and Stage One program that provides classroom intervention. The daily Literacy program targets students reading, writing and comprehension of texts.

Focus on reading (FoR)

FoR is an intensive program that involves teaching key aspects of reading, comprehension, vocabulary and text fluency. This research-based program aims at enhancing student outcomes in Literacy with a 3-6 focus.

Targeted early numeracy (TEN)

TEN intervention program provides students with daily short, sharp and frequent numeracy activities to improve student achievement in number. It focuses on developing early numeracy skills through an explicit and differentiated teaching and learning program.

MacqLit

MacqLit is an explicit and systematic reading intervention program for small groups of students in grades 3-6. MacqLit enhances student outcomes in reading by targeting key areas of instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

Best start

Best Start occurs in the first few weeks of school and every Kindergarten child takes part. Kindergarten teachers work with each child, on an individual basis, to assess where your child will be starting their school learning journey. The results will be discussed with parents at interviews which will be held early in Term One. Results are updated throughout the year.
